In Exodus 20: 3-5, God warns against having other idols or gods before Him: “You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God.”
Who is Jesus?
Who is Jesus Christ? How does my life impact others? What is my purpose? These are just a few of the questions that shape us.
God desires to make your life purposeful, meaningful, peaceful and abundant.
“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5: 1 (NIV)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (NIV)
You were created for a vital relationship with the living God; a supportive community with others; and to make a difference in this world.
“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)
Evil, selfishness, and sin has broken our relationship with God, others, and this world. Not only do we suffer but this world is damaged by the injustices and lack of care caused by evil, selfishness, and sin.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (NIV)
“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59: 2 (NIV)
Jesus Christ has waded into the evil, selfishness, and sin that has marred each of us and has restored us to a relationship with God and each other. Furthermore, Jesus Christ empowers us to be a people who seek to treat others with compassion and care and therefore, to make a difference in this world.
This “God life” with Jesus Christ is not the result of what we DO but what Jesus Christ has DONE for us. Life is a gift from God.
“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NIV)
So what does Jesus want us to do in response? How do you become a Christ follower and receive eternal life?
“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV)
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become the children of God.” John 1:12 (NIV)
“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 (NIV)
